BEING A TEACHER AND A RESEARCHER IS A VOCATION. It is a call that turns life into a continuous search. I, in particular, seek to contribute to the ennoblement of human life through the teaching of Latin literature and research on the classical and humanistic world.

I see teaching as an opportunity to highlight the relevance of the Roman world for the understanding of our ethical, political and aesthetic legacy and even for the assimilation of our vital protocols. Research, in turn, allows me to delve into some nooks and crannies of human history. From them I aspire to build a more self-conscious world.

I received my degree in classical philology from the University of Valencia, where I obtained my doctorate with a thesis entitled La traducción latina en verso de la obra completa de Ausiàs March realizada por Vicente Mariner (Turnoni 1633). It was directed by Mr. Jordi Pérez i Durà and qualified with a unanimous "sobresaliente cum laude". It was awarded the Menéndez Pelayo Prize for the best thesis written in Spanish by the Institut d’Estudis Catalans

I have completed my training as a teacher and researcher in numerous visits to research centers and various European universities. I must highlight my stays at the Universität Basel, Universität Bamberg, Universität Mainz or Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel.

MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE BEGAN IN 1990 AT THE UNIVERSITY OF VALENCIA UNIVERSITAT DE VALÈNCIA . Since then I have been able to teach Latin language and literature and, in parallel, Roman history, Roman thought or classical religion and mythology. Up to now I have taught more than 30 different subjects in the Bachelor’s Degree and in the Degree of Classical Philology. I have also participated in various postgraduate, doctoral and master’s programs.

MY RESARCH IS CHARACTERIZED BY INTERDISCIPLINARITY. My philological studies are fully rooted in fields of study such as general theory of literature, comparative literature, theory of translation, and even philosophy and theology. Nevertheless, I have always tried not to lose sight of the baggage of our philological tradition, that is, the edition and interpretation of texts.

That said, la meua investigació es desenvolupa en cinc línies interrelacionades:

  1. Text editing and translation
  2. Spanish humanism
  3. Theory of ideas with special attention to the themes of peace, tolerance, equality and women
  4. Translation Theory
  5. The Latin literary genres

These investigations have been published in books and book chapters of publishing houses such as the Biblioteca de Autores Cristianos (BAC), Alfons el Magnànim, Castalia, Síntesis, Publicacions de l'Abadia de Montserrat, Enciclopèdia Catalana, Dykinson, Klincksieck or 3i4. All these publishers obtain high scores in all the quality criteria referenced by ANECA: quality and quantity of citations generated, prestige of the publisher and the collection in which it is published, reviews, rigorous selection and evaluation process of originals, inclusion in bibliographies or presence in databases and library catalogs.

The same can be said, in the field of articles, of the magazines Quaderns de Filologia, Boletín de la Sociedad Castellonense de Cultura, Minerva, Arbor, Interculturality and Translation, Debats, Iberoamericana, eHumanista, Pedagogía XX1, Historia de la Pedagogía or Anuario de Historia de la Iglesia.

All of them also meet the quality criteria indicated by ANECA: they identify the members of the editorial and scientific committees, they present precise editorial indications, they translate into English the summaries, titles and key words, they inform about the process they use for the evaluation and selection of articles, they declare and comply with the periodicity, they use and comply with the scientific arbitration in the evaluation of the articles, they declare and comply with the double anonymity in the external evaluation of the articles, they communicate in a motivated way the editorial decision, they present percentage and rate of acceptance of articles, they have effective editorial and advisory boards and inclusion in the best bibliographical databases.
